“No. Esa tampoco es mi hacha”
dijo el leñador con voz penosa.

Ya ven amiguitos, siempre es bueno decir
la verdad, pues en este mundo solo ganan los honestos y humildes de corazón.

The Honored
Lumberjack
Once
upon a time, a humble and good lumberjack, who after working all day in the
field, returned home to meet his own. Along the way, he set out to cross a
small bridge, when suddenly his axe fell into the river.
«How
will I now work and feed my children?» exclaimed the lumberjack distressed and
concerned. Then, in the eyes of the poor famine, a beautiful, twinkling nymph
appeared from the bottom of the river. «Don’t be slam, good man. I will bring
back your axe right now,» the magic creature told the lumberjack, and quickly
plunged into the waters of the river.
Soon
after, the nymph reappeared with a golden axe to show the lumberjack, but the
lumberjack replied that this was not his axe. Again, the nymph plunged into the
river and brought a silver axe into his hands. «No. That’s not my axe either,»
the lumberjack said in a distressing voice.
At
the third attempt of the nymph, he appeared with an iron axe. «That’s my axe!
Thank you very much!» shouted the lumberjack with deep joy. But the nymph
wanted to reward him for not telling lies, and told him, «I will give you the
two golden and silver axes for being so honest.»
You
see little friends, it is always good to tell the truth, for in this world only
the honest and humble of heart win.
